LEGATO ACADEMY 2025

The first LEGATO Academy took place in Brussels last June and was a huge success (then called Leadership College) with 100% of attendees saying they would come to the next event. The Board of LEGATO has now committed to organising LEGATO Academy at the second Weekend in March every year, where members can improve and acquire new skills to continue building strong, happy choirs.

Early bird registration opens at a €65 fee for the 2025 LEGATO Academy in Warsaw from 6 pm on Friday 7 March until 4 pm on Sunday 9 March 2025, to secure your place register here today.

We will be offering all delegates the opportunity to choose from two workshop streams/themes to talk, learn and exchange ideas and experiences, led by facilitators (one stream will be focused on music, the other focused on choir management).

There will also be panel discussions, an opening welcome & plenary event, and time to socialise and network with other choir members. Simple food and drinks are included during the day on Saturday and Sunday, evening events are at their own cost. Financial Assistance is available for local delegates and those from countries in Groups 2 and 3 of our assistance policy.

Holiday Season

As we enter the busy performing season for choirs, let's also think about those whose lives have been shattered by war, loneliness and illness, be kind and generous and give money to our LGBTQ family in Ukraine and those displaced elsewhere in Europe. https://www.legato-choirs.com/ukraine.

The Board, Team Legato Volunteers wish all our Legato Family very happy holidays, however you may celebrate and enjoy.

Volunteer for LEGATO

Do you have ideas on how to improve Legato? Do you want to be a part of growing our LGBTQ+ choral movement? Put your name DOWN HERE and Ásta Ósk will be in contact with you to talk about where you can help.

Team LEGATO is open to any members of your choir and is a great way for them to get involved, work with choirs across Europe and gain experience.

We especially want to hear from people interested in joining our Fundraising and Communications teams.

NEW MEMBERS

We proudly welcome the following choirs as new members of LEGATO.

We now have 158 choirs and ensembles from 22 countries with more than 5800 singers.

Diverdoatsie

Groningen, Netherlands
SATB
founded 2023
40 singers
Music style: mostly classical, some rock/pop/musicals

https://www.youtube.com/@RozeProjectkoorDIVERDOATSIE

Seizing the opportunity that Roze Zaterdag (Pink Saturday) in Groningen offers, to showcase a mixed LGBTQIA choir: this was and is the goal of Project Choir DIVERDOATSIE. The choir takes its name from the local Groningen dialect word for 'a pleasant pastime', but we’ve altered the spelling to reflect our celebration of diversity. Under the inspiring leadership of conductor Cobien Nieuwpoort, the project choir has grown since its launch in September 2023 into an ultra-mixed choir of 56 singers. We are different from each other in many important ways, but what we have in common is that singing is our way of celebrating and, where necessary, fighting for our sexual freedom and for gender diversity. In the autumn, we – the choir committee, the conductor, all singers and other interested parties – will explore what our next project could look like. If you would like to think along, sing along or contribute in another way, send an email to
projectkoorrozezaterdaggrunn@gmail.com and we will invite you too.

Chor Rosa

Zurich, Switzerland
SATB
founded 2016
30 singers
Music style: mostly rock/pop/musicals, some classical

https://chor-rosa.ch

ROSA - the choir by and for the queer community. Charming, melodious, rhythmic and sometimes a bit cheesy: We sing our favourite songs from the wide world of jazz, chanson, pop and classical music. Equality, acceptance of all gender identities and LGBTIQ+ life worlds, diversity and feminism are central components of our choral culture and shape our programme selection. Enjoying music and singing together is just as important to us as concentrated rehearsals and careful preparation for our performances. Everyone who can identify with our self-image is welcome in the ROSA choir.

Thames Valley Gay Chorus

Reading, United Kingdom
SATB
founded 2003
singers 20
Music style: mostly rock/pop/musicals, some classical

https://thamesvalleygaychorus.org.uk/

TVGC was started in 2003 as Reading Gay Men’s Chorus, became Reading Gay Chorus in 2004, and then changed to its current name in 2011. Last year we celebrated our 20th anniversary!
TVGC is a dedicated LGBTQ+ choir where all adults are welcome. We aim to provide a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to get together, and develop skills in singing and performing, while also taking advantage of the wide array of social opportunities the group offers. We ask that you share in our values and support us in fostering a safe space for all members of the LGBTQIA community.

Songbirds Choir

Cardiff, United Kingdom
SSAA
founded 2012
singers 27
Music style: equally mixed classic/rock/pop/musicals

https://songbirdschoir.com

Hello! We are Cardiff’s Songbirds, a non-auditioning community choir for LGBTQ+ women, trans, and non-binary people. Since we were founded in 2012 we have proudly fostered a culture of inclusivity, creating a supportive and welcoming space where members can find friendship, joy, and create a harmonious sound. We rehearse once a week in Cardiff and perform all over the local area when we can, often for local charities, representing the LGBQT+ community and, importantly, enjoying ourselves in the process. The ethos of the choir is acceptance and fun; we are a community and a family, and we place more importance on inclusivity than being note-perfect (although, thanks to our Musical Director Lizzie, we do make a beautiful sound)! We put on our own concerts once or twice a year and often perform at Pride events across South Wales. We’ve sung at events held by Stonewall, Cardiff University and Ty Hafan, as well as weddings, carol services and joint events with our friends South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus and Cardiff Trans Singers. The three groups co-hosted the Hand in Hand Festival in Cardiff in August 2019. We are always delighted to welcome new members to our choir.
