LEGATO Academy 2025

Register today - Join Us in Warsaw: LEGATO Academy, 7-8 March 2025

We are less than 30 days away from gathering in Warsaw for the LEGATO Academy weekend, which will take place from 7 to 8 March!

We’ll start on Friday night at the queer-friendly Butero Bistro & Bar, where we will share our knowledge and experience to renew friendships, make new friends, and strengthen choirs.

Over two days, you can choose from 16 incredible workshops and sessions hosted in the modern WeWork space at the Mennica Legacy Tower in Warsaw’s centre. Other highlights include Warsaw’s Queer Museum and guided walking tour, and opportunities to socialise in Warsaw’s amazing restaurants and queer nightlife.

What to Expect at LEGATO Academy 2025

  • Petriikka Pohjanheimo from the fabulous Friends of Dorothy (Helsinki, Finland) will explore activism in art.
  • Back due to popular demand, Helga Margrét Marzellíusardóttir (Reykjavík Queer Choir) will share innovative conducting techniques and choose the right repertoire to suit your singers.
  • Start the day energised with an interactive  Wake Up Your Day session led by Simon Sharp (London Gay Men’s Chorus).
  • Trans inclusion and vocal training with Stephen Davidson (Trans+ Choir, London)
  • Our host Misza Czerniak (Voces Gaudii) will lead an open discussion on meeting Artistic challenges for queer choirs.
  • How to handle conflicts and build harmony in your choir with Anne Golden & Iain Akroyd (European Queer Choir & Gay Abandon)
  • Fundraising to help your choir make an impact with Ásta Ósk Hlöðversdóttir and Dan Jarvis (Reykjavik Queer Choir & The Sunday Boys)
  • Explore the potential of AI & musical creativity with Simon Pearson (The Barberfellas)
  • Learn how to manage change in your choir with Theo Wieldraaijer (Homokoor Zangzaad, Netherlands)
  • Building global connections with other LGBTQ+ choirs with Hsien Chew (LEGATO Board, Proud Voices Asia, Proud Voices UK & Ireland)
  • LEGATO board members Simon White (Pink Singers, Oxford Proud Voices) & Dan Jarvis (The Sunday Boys) will hold an open discussion on how LEGATO can best support LGBTQ+ choirs across Europe.
  • Queer choirs as spaces for learning, teaching and growth with Thomas Hilder (Associate Music Professor, Norway University)
  • Professionalising your team while balancing your budget with Martin Brophy (Legato Board, London GMC). Discussion on how singing for equality can help your choir

Voting opens on 10 February and closes on 15 February 2025 (end of the day). The voting details and link were already sent to your choir on 6 February. If you have any questions, please contact us: membership@legato-choirs.com

​The host city for Various Voices 2030 will be announced later in 2025, and the handover ceremony will be held in Brussels in 2026.

Our bidding teams have worked immensely hard to offer us all the best experience for 2030 and thank them for contributing to our mission.

DELEGATE REGISTRATION IS OPEN

You can now register individually as a delegate if your choir is registered for the festival. The Early Bird Fee will apply until 30 June 2025. 

Our Support Programme offers reduced rates to some delegates and there is also a Solidarity Fund. The registration page summarises the most frequent questions and answers about pricing, hosting and transport in several languages.

The festival has reached its maximum capacity of 120 participating LGBTQI+ choirs and there is a waiting list in case a choir cancels its participation.
